The lower cost of LED lights and the savings that users will see over the LED light’s lifespan make them an easy choice for homeowners and businesses.

Just a few years ago, many homeowners and businesses were turned away from LED lights by their initial cost. It was hard to invest in the promised future savings when the initial, up-front cost was so much more than other lighting options.

Lower cost of LED lights make them an easy choice

Many people don’t realize that in the past two years, LED light prices have dropped by almost 50%, making them a much easier choice – when you’re at the store today and when you hear of all the electrical savings of LED lights.

By making the simple switch to LED lights from halogen, incandescent, or CFL lights, people can see a significant drop in their energy bill. One family in Pittsburgh is saving over $1,000 a year on their electrical bill and expects to save over $24,000 over the lifespan of an LED light, roughly 17 years.

Even with the advances in LED technology, there still is a slight price difference between LED lights and other lighting options. A traditional 60-watt incandescent bulb costs about $1. CFL bulbs, another popular lighting option for homes and businesses – the kind that resemble a corkscrew – costs about $2. LED lights remain the most expensive option at about $2.50 a bulb. But, LED lights use a completely different type of technology than other bulbs, and their advantages outweigh the initially cost, both financially and environmentally.

Consider more than just the cost of LED lights

The initial cost isn’t the only thing you should consider when you are standing in the light bulb aisle, debating which type to buy. LED bulbs use only 9 watts of energy. Incandescents use 60 watts and CFLs use 14 watts. That’s almost 1/7 the energy for LED lights, but that doesn’t mean you’re only getting a fraction of the light. Each of those bulbs generate the same light output in lumens.

Using significantly less energy each month translates into a lower energy bills – something we can all appreciate, whether you’re buying bulbs for your house, business or warehouse.

Plus, LED lights last so much longer than other bulbs, you won’t have the cost of replacing them every few years or months.LED light color technology has also improved in recent years. In the past, consumers have had complaints about the light color of LED lights, but today, the light output of LEDs is virtually indistinguishable from traditional lighting. LED lights also are now available in multiple light bulb sizes and styles from standard bulbs to specialized styles.
