Reasons for Converting to LED Lights

The advantages of converting to LED lights from traditional lighting options like fluorescent and incandescent lighting are pretty significant. The number one benefit of making the switch to LED lights is the drastic energy savings seen by businesses and homeowners. LED lights use a minimum of 75% less energy than other lighting options on the market and usually last 25 times as long.

Additional LED benefits

Even though energy savings are the first benefit most people think of when they consider using LED lights, there are numerous other advantages and reasons to consider why converting to LED lights might be a good option for your home or business.

Lower Long-term cost

While LED lights are still more expensive upfront than fluorescent and compact fluorescent lights, they have gotten more affordable as LED technology has continued to improve. As LED lights continue to drop in price, customers are seeing significant long-term savings.  A typical incandescent light is expected to last between 800 to 1500 hours of use. Fluorescent lights have a longer lifespan of about 10,000 hours. LED lights, on the other hand, have an average lifespan of 60,000 hours. For consumers, that adds up to substantial savings in replacement costs. For companies and businesses, it also means fewer employee-hours spent on replacing used bulbs.

Lower short-term cost

While LED lights are still more expensive than other lighting options, the price of an LED light has dropped significantly since they first hit the market. If you use a bulb for an average of two hours a day and paid the national average cost of electricity at $0.115 per kilowatt-hour, a single LED bulb will cost about $1.00 a year to use. A similar CFL bulb will cost about $1.17 per year and an incandescent bulb will cost about $5.00 a year.

No noise

Fluorescent tubes are especially noisy compared to other lighting options. If they have been used for a long period of time, the constant noise can become distracting. They also often give off a clicking noise and can produce a low buzzing sound. LED lights produce no noise and give off light without any annoying flickering noises.
